In this discussion, artist Jared Tso (Diné) will join moderator Velma Kee Craig (Diné) for a discussion about his contributions to the exhibition, Arriving Forever into the Present World. This Virtual Art Talk was rescheduled from the November date. While the exhibition is no longer on view, the presentation will include a vibrant slide show of the artists’ works.
The exhibition featured works from the Heard Museum’s permanent collection – including textiles, pottery, and basketry – representing living artistic traditions within Southwestern Indigenous cultures. Arriving Forever frustrated prevailing conversations around what makes a work of art “contemporary.”

Artist Bio:
Jared Tso is a fourth generation Diné potter who currently resides in Nahata Dziil, AZ. Tso completed his MFA in Ceramics at the University of New Mexico during the fall of 2021. He has an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and has since transferred to full time artist.
This unique combination of a technical degree and passion for clay has provided a unique view to his practice. Tso has received multiple awards in ceramics and recognition for his innovative approach. More recently Tso was featured as one of the “Dwell 24”, a group of rising stars in the world of design, as well as Best of Classification for Pottery at the Heard Indian Market 2023.
While focusing in Traditional Diné pottery techniques, Tso hopes to challenge the existing boundaries that confine the conversation of Native ceramics in the context of the past.
