Butterfly Installation

January 11 - 12, 2025 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Lyon Family Crossroads Gallery

Artboard

Included with admission.

Come see a temporary art installation featuring the butterflies created by visitors in response to the Meryl McMaster: Bloodline exhibition!

Meryl McMaster: Bloodline includes 52 butterflies, a motif frequently used in McMaster’s artwork. In Plains Cree culture, butterflies are associated with the presence of the ancestors, flitting back into contact with the living. After visiting the exhibition, you can write a note to a loved one, share a message with your ancestors, or write about your transformation onto a colored butterfly cutout.

These paper butterflies will take flight as part of a community art installation on view January 11 & 12. See your butterfly on the wall at the Heard Museum!

Haven’t had a chance to make a butterfly? Visit the Meryl McMaster: Bloodline exhibition before it closes on March 2 or by January 9 for your butterfly to be included in the installation.
