HOME: Native People in the Southwest
Away From Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories is a new and updated version of the previously popular exhibition, Remembering Our Boarding School Days: The Boarding School Experience , which traced the early history of the U.S. Government's efforts to "kill the Indian and save the man." After almost two decades, there was a need to refresh and augment these complex stories. The exhibition now includes new technologies, a digital timeline allowing visitors to scroll through dates and images, a touchscreen map, and video monitors providing first-person stories about boarding schools from students, administrators, teachers and scholars.
(Tours of this exhibition are available beginning on Feb. 25, 2019)
Away From Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories
Highlights of the Heard takes visitors into all the new and changing galleries in the Museum. Visitors learn about each exhibition's theme, and a variety artifacts, cultures and art forms are "highlighted" but not discussed in detail.
