Billie Jane Baguley Library and Archives Collection Spotlight for March 2019

For more than 35 years, the state has designated March as Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month. Educating the public about the field of archaeology and the stewardship of cultural resources have long been goals of this annual initiative. During the ensuing decades, though, views on the impact of archaeological research have evolved. The following examples from the Library collection provide a variety of perspectives on the shifts in perception particularly as indigenous communities take on new roles within the practice of archaeology. These selections examining archaeological conversations taking place within the state, the region and the world are currently on display in the public reading area of the Library.
