Sport as Wellness Conversations

Join the Heard for two conversations, a part of the exhibit Beautiful Games: American Indian Sport and Art, that will enhance your understanding of how health-and-wellness initiatives tap into values shared by many Indigenous communities today:

  • 12:30 p.m.: Healthy Community Initiatives — This dialogue focusing on the many grassroots and community-driven efforts aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles in Native communities. Panelists include Dustin Martin, program director of WINGS of America and Chelsey Luger, wellness contributor at Indian Country Today Media Network.
  • 2 p.m.: Running as Legacy — This discussion about the impact and tradition of running in American Indian communities will be narrated by Dustin Martin and include panelists Rick Baker, Hopi High School cross-country coach and Alvina Begay, former member of theArizona State University track team.
