Museum tours on Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1: Due to the great interest in seeing the exhibits on their opening weekend, the Heard will operate on a limited public tour schedule. Free public guided tours are offered at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tours include the signature exhibit HOME: Native Peoples in the Southwest at 10 a.m. (Saturday only), noon and 3 p.m., and a Highlights of the Heard (will not include Frida Kahlo–Her Photos) tour at 2 p.m.

Events on Saturday, Oct. 31:

  • 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: DJ Carl Hanni will spin Latin beats in the Central Courtyard.
  • 12:30 p.m.: Visitors will enjoy a special pet parade featuring creatures once treasured by Frida. The xoloitzcuintle or “xolo” is one of the most ancient breed of dogs in the Western Hemisphere, originating in Mexico around 3,500 years ago. They were companion animals, healers, hunters, guards and bed warmers. Frida always had several of the hairless variety in her home (see photo at right). Come meet some of the local xolos and their owners. Then, head into the galleries and see photos of Frida in her Blue House courtyard with her xoloitzcuintle in Frida Kahlo—Her Photos and find figurative xolos in Las Favoritas de Frida: Selections from the Heard Collection.

Don’t forget to stop by the Frida Foto Booth to snap a photo with special props of which Frida would have approved.

Frida Kahlo — Her Photos on display through Feb. 8, 2016.

Las Favoritas de Frida: Selections from the Heard Collection on display through Sept. 25, 2016.
