Opening of ‘It’s Your Turn: A HOME Studio’ hands-on exhibit!

Start your summer activities at the Heard Museum with our new summer exhibit, It’s Your Turn: A HOME Studio.

Connect with the people of the Southwest through activities and crafts in this hands-on gallery that complements our signature exhibit, HOME: Native People in the Southwest.

Expand on your learning with these fun hands-on activities, which will help to deepen your understanding of what you saw. We also invite you to revisit the HOME: Native People in the Southwest exhibit afterward so you can see which parts of the exhibit inspired these activities:

  • Color, cut out then construct a small three-dimensional Hogan, a Navajo-style home.
  • Color bracelets inspired by Zuni mosaic pieces found in HOME and in It’s Your Turn: A HOME Studio.
  • Color and decorate a saddle bag similar in style to Apache saddle bags found in the HOME exhibit and It’s Your Turn: A HOME Studio.
  • Create a calendar stick to mark important events of the year as the O’otham people do.
  • Wrap baby dolls in Navajo and Apache-style cradleboards and learn the importance of the cradleboard to native cultures in the Southwest.
  • Create butterflies and dragonflies to take home to help you remember to be good water managers! Learn about why these two insects are so important to native peoples and what they represent.
