The Native Veterans Video Production Workshop, led by artist Steven J Yazzie and Cinematographer Gabriel Fermin, is a three-day immersive experience that covers the entire video production process. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with prior experience and focuses on the pre-production, production, and post-production phases of video creation. On the first day, participants will learn about equipment usage, concept development, and logistical planning. Day two will cover technical skills, including camera operation and filming techniques. The final day will provide insights into post-production, equipping participants with the skills needed to create high-quality videos. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of video production and will be able to create a tailored short video for an Indigenous community.

About Steven J. Yazzie
Steven Yazzie, a Native American artist born in 1970 with Navajo Nation enrollment and Laguna Pueblo heritage, specializes in video art and installations but considers painting his foremost medium. Raised in Black Mesa, Arizona, following his parents’ divorce and his mother’s remarriage to a Navajo man, Yazzie also served in the Marine Corps during the Gulf War. His grandfather’s role as a World War II code-talker inspired much of his work. He achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts in intermedia from Arizona State University, earning recognition as the outstanding graduate, and briefly studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
About Gabriel Fermin
Gabe, the owner and operator, is a versatile filmmaker with a background in documentary cinematography and narrative direction of photography. He is a passionate filmmaker whose journey to college was funded through scholarships earned by creating educational videos. Gabe earned his degree in advertising with a minor in film. His career began in the realm of digital marketing, primarily serving small businesses. With a deep understanding of small business dynamics and digital marketing strategies, he excels in helping clients craft compelling narratives for their marketing efforts.
Gabe’s experience extends to collaborating with artists, museums, and working within the realm of social justice reform. Through these experiences, he has developed a profound appreciation for showcasing the human aspect in all stories he undertakes. Whether it’s producing internal corporate videos or crafting documentary-style short films, Gabe takes pride in transforming clients’ visions into captivating realities.
