Students in the Las Guias (“The Guides”) docent training class meet one half-day a week on Tuesdays for seven months to gain a thorough knowledge of the history, culture and art of the American Indians of the Southwest.
Students in the class, which begins Oct. 6, also receive special training on how to address common perceptions people have about American Indians. They practice their skills with each other and then present what they have learned to a group of museum visitors.
The class is led by instructor Jaclyn Roessel (Navajo), Heard public programs and education director.
An informational meeting about the course and docent service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the museum’s Encanto Room.
