Free Summer Sundays

Escape the heat of summer and join us again for this annual series to enjoy free performances, artist demonstrations and more, every fourth Sunday of the summer. Admission to the museum’s galleries is free all day, so gather the whole family and come to the Heard Museum for cool fun that kids of all ages will enjoy.

Free performances, family activities and more! Admission to the museum’s galleries is free from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.*

*Note: Admission to First Fridays and Summer Sundays does not include gate fees for the exhibition Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera. Event attendees who wish to visit this special exhibition will be charged the gate fee of $7.

Admission to the exhibition closes at 4:30 p.m. The museum remains open until 5 p.m.

Performances

Tony Duncan (Apache, Arikara and Hidatsa)
Tony has performed for audiences worldwide including performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Smithsonian Museum, The Billboard Music Awards, The Tonight Show, and The White House. Duncan is also a Heard Museum World Championship Hoop Dancer winning the World Championship title in 2011.

Artist Demonstrations

Yolanda Hart Stevens (Quechan/ Pee Posh)
Visit with Yolanda Hart Stevens and learn about the intricate art of beadwork.

Demonstration time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Sandra Day O’Connor Gallery

Hands-on Activities

Create your own clay beads
Be sure to take a look at the big necklaces Frida liked to wear. You can see images of large necklaces in photographs as well as in the self portraits she made of herself. Join Education Staff in creating your very own clay beads! Learn how beads were created before the invention of machines that now do the job.

Activity time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Frida y Diego Activities
Make Frida and Diego-themed art projects in our kid-friendly exhibition It’s Your Turn: Frida y Diego.

Activity time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
