In May, the theme is “Rockabilly,” with music performed by Pat Roberts and the Heymakers in an event that’s guaranteed to mean lots of dancing. The Blue Bird Pin-ups will be hosting a special pinup contest. Author Jim West will sign his new book, The Phoenix Sound: A History of Twang & Rockabilly Music in Arizona ($21.99), and will give a special talk on the topic at 6:30 p.m.
See professional dancer Isaiah Meders at work and even take mini-swing lessons from him before the band plays and throughout the night. Hopi artist Kevin Sekakuku will also be demonstrating katsina carving from 6 to 8 p.m.
Don’t forget to sit down to some chicken and waffles served by our nationally acclaimed Courtyard Café! Enjoy the Heard’s several exhibit galleries, gourmet drinks at the Coffee Cantina, and see the best in Native art at the Heard Shops.
Admission to event and museum galleries free 6 to 10 p.m.
