57th annual Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market

The Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market is a world-acclaimed cultural event that draws nearly 15,000 visitors and more than 600 of the nation’s most outstanding and successful American Indian artists. You’ll meet traditional and cutting-edge contemporary artists as well as young artists selling their art alongside their relatives. All proceeds support the museum’s mission.

2015 Juried Competition Results

Jeremy Frey (Passamaquoddy), a basket maker from Indian Township, Maine, won his second Best of Show Award, having received his first in 2011. Frey and other winners in the 2015 competition were honored at the March 6 Best of Show Reception & Dinner. A full release and photos will be posted on this website under “Museum News.”

‘Celebrating the Art of Basketry’

Celebrate the tradition of basket making as well as the work of top American Indian artists of many media, including jewelry, pottery, weaving, painting, carving  and sculpture. Visitors get firsthand access to artists and can view and purchase handmade, authentic work by the best jewelers, sculptors, painters, potters, weavers, bead workers, katsina doll carvers and basket makers. Fair weekend also includes music by recording artists, cultural dance performances, art demonstrations, and chefs demonstrating culinary uses of native ingredients. Indian Fair & Market is the museum’s largest annual fundraiser, presented by the Heard Museum Guild.

Museum Shop to showcase renowned artists, respected experts

While at the Fair, meet several renowned artists personally presenting their artworks in the Museum Shop: silver and beadwork artist Victoria Adams (Southern Cheyenne/Arapaho); bronze and stone sculptor Doug Hyde (Nez Perce/Chippewa/Assiniboine); contemporary painter and jewelry designer Tony Abeyta (Navajo); and Virgil Ortiz (Cochiti), creator of Pueblo-based lines of home décor, high Indigenous fashion, pottery and visual imagery.

In addition, we are very excited to host respected longtime art appraisers and authors: Bill Faust, who will bring Charles Loloma jewelry, Charles King, with antique pottery, and Terry DeWald who will be showcasing antique baskets.
