Explore Majestic Figures: Contemporary Sculptures by Native American Artists with Curator Olivia Barney

Join Olivia Barney (Diné), Heard Museum Collections Coordinator and Curator, for a 30-minute talk on Majestic Figures, an exhibition celebrating the gift of 23 contemporary sculptures from Charles and Valerie Diker. These works were created by five master artists—Rhonda Holy Bear (Lakota), Jamie Okuma (Luiseño/Shoshone/Bannock), and three generations of the Growing Thunder family (Assibinoine/Sioux): Joyce Growing Thunder, Juanita Growing Thunder Fogarty, and Jessa Rae Growing Thunder, Ph.D.

In this talk, Barney will provide insight into the artists’ practices and the extraordinary craftsmanship that brings each figure to life. Don’t miss this chance to gain a deeper understanding of the traditions and stories embedded in these remarkable sculptures.

Included with museum admission and FREE for members. Tour meets at the Info Desk.
