Join the Heard Museum in honoring American Armed Forces service members and their families during a special Memorial Day gathering. The event begins with a flag-raising ceremony to recognize Native veterans who gave their lives in service. Following the flag raising, Kenneth Cozad, Sr. will pay tribute with drum songs for all fallen Veterans. 

Starting at noon, guests are invited to the storytelling session led by the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute. There will also be an open mic for the public to share history, reflections, and teachings connected to service and family. Throughout the day, visitors of all ages are invited to participate in family activities that connect with resilience, creativity, and cultural belonging.

This meaningful program provides an opportunity for reflection, learning, and community togetherness while honoring Native heroes.

As part of the Memorial Day event, the Heroes of Cibecue Student Book Series and Exhibit features children’s books, student artwork, and narratives honoring Apache veterans and the students who helped preserve their stories. Student authors, illustrators, and narrators may also participate through live readings and reflections, creating a meaningful experience that honors remembrance, service, and Indigenous legacy.

Premiering nationwide on May 29, PRESSURE follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg in the 72 hours before D-Day. While the film focuses on the leaders behind the decision to launch the largest seaborne invasion in history, it is rooted in events shaped by the courage and sacrifice of all who served during D-Day — including at least 55 Native American service members.
