Short Course: The Apache Tribes

Please join the Heard Museum Guild for a series on Apache stories told by Apaches, an in-depth study of Apache culture, scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on three successive Thursdays:

  • Nov 5 – will feature Ann Skidmore of the White Mountain Apaches.
  • Nov. 12 – will be with Vernelda Grant of the San Carlos Apaches.
  • Nov. 19 – will be with Michael Darrow of the Fort Sill Chiracha Apaches. Michael Darrow is the nephew of Alan Houser, the grandson of Magnus Coloradas and the son of feminine pioneer, Ruey Houser.

The class will feature creation stories, pre-contact life, settling on the reservations and modern Apache life. This course will be taught by Heard Museum docent Marilyn Brooks.
